Designer or Developer?

April 23 2006 3 Comments

Am I wrong to think that there is a difference between web designer and web developer?

I think that a designer is one who designs; color, images, layout, structure, all the front end stuff. And that a developer does the programming, coding, database, basically the back end stuff.

Is that a correct assumption?

You would be correct in that statement but people tend to lump both into Web Designer.

    I thought so!

It bugs me most on ads for designers, and they have the title be “Web Designer” but the job description is all hard coding: .net, coldfusion, etc…

I feel you. I get that all the time. I am a designer not a devoleper. Since I been working on a lot of print projects lately. I am think about cutting off web design all together. Less headaches!
