Artscape 2009
Last weekend, I was bored and alone and figured to make my way downtown to the ‘ol Artscape. I usually just drive there, but for Artscape, I take the light rail, meaning a typical 15 minute drive is turned into an hour journey of driving to the light rail, waiting for the train, and all the traffic the train waits on downtown. Its pretty annoying, but thats the way it has to be.
I went over to see the Chinese acrobats. I was slightly impressed at their performance, but not blown away as I had hoped. Still, it was at the right price for me anyways. (free)
I did not know that Artscape had doubled in size. I didn’t go last year, so this year I was shocked to see it had spilled up Charles Street and over the bridge, and up Charles street some more.
I kind of got sucked into it and kept walking way more than I thought I would have, checking out all the sillyness happening on the bridge. My favorite was the Camera Obscura, where you go to a dark little room with a screen, and through a hole in the door, you see whats outside on the screen. It so simple, and very “old tech”. But still fun.
I also enjoyed watching the game of life sized foosball, with people on harnesses attached to pipes and kicking a ball through the goal. Genius!
I have never gone to Artscape by myself, this was a first for me. And overall, it wasnt so bad being alone. Since Artscape has grown so much, with more things around than art, it was kind of fun. I wasnt even that interested in the art, I liked all the other happenings. I suppose I ever really noticed that there were other parts to Artscape other than art I cant afford and food.
