Google Analytics

Google AnayticsI saw an article about Google Analytics in “Pratical Web Design Magazine”. After reading how detailed and cool it seemed, I wanted an account. So I went to the link, and signed up for my invitation, and then started to wait. You need a google account to sign up.

It took about 3 weeks for the invitation code to get to me. I pasted the little code onto the pages of my site, and waited some more. After a couple of days, I was able to log in and see data. And yes, Google Analytics is very cool, I like the pie charts showing all the various sections of information. They display the pages users spend the most time on, the pages that a user enters your site from, the page they leave from, and even the page they get to your site from. They also have the users browser and platform, as well as location. All this is interesting to me, I didnt know people were looking at my site with Safari…although I should have figured.

It kind of reminds me of Site Meter, I used to use that in ‘99-’00. Though Google has more information than Site Meter, Site Meter isnt all bad either. I like the “hidden” aspect of Google more, where as Site Meter uses a visible counter.

So sign up for your Google Analytics account, that way you can obsess about your web site user information just as much as I do.
